GROWTH HORMONES

There are several products available for growth hormone therapy.

All products are hormones that are identical to human growth hormone. They are used to stimulate skeletal and linear growth in children with growth failure due to a lack of natural growth hormone secretion. They may also be used in adults with growth hormone deficiency. All products are administered as a subcutaneous (under the skin) injection.

The differences between products are as follows:

• Diagnosis the product has been approved to treat
• Injection device used to administer the therapy

Product that comes in powder formulation must be mixed (reconstituted) with sterile water prior to an injection and administered with a vial and syringe. Some products are available in prefilled liquid cartridges to be administered with a pen device.
