Cystadane is prescribed to reduce dangerously high blood levels of the naturally occurring amino acid homocysteine. Excessive levels of homocysteine can lead to the formation of clots within your blood vessels, brittle bones (osteoporosis), other bone abnormalities, and dislocation of the eye lens. Homocysteine is also linked to an increased risk of heart disease and heart attack.
The active ingredient in Cystadane is found in the body, as well as in foods such as beets, cereals, seafood, and spinach. It is a white, granular, hygroscopic powder containing betaine anhydrous as its only ingredient.
Cystadane is a registered trademark of Orphan Europe and is distributed in the United States by Rare Disease Therapeutics, Inc.
