What is the relationship between Medco and Accredo?

Your health plan chose Medco to manage your prescription drug benefit. Medco administers your benefit at both a retail pharmacy and through mail-order. Beyond just managing your prescription benefit plan, Medco also operates a mail-order pharmacy called Medco By Mail . Accredo is Medco’s specialty pharmacy. Accredo’s primary focus is providing enhanced care and services to patients on medications used to treat complex conditions.

For details about your prescription drug benefit or coverage information, you may access your account at www.medco.com. If you are a first-time visitor to www.medco.com, you will need to have your member ID number and a recent prescription number handy, in order to register.

What kind of safeguards can I expect for my specialty medications?

Accredo utilizes registered pharmacists specially trained in your therapy to fill all prescriptions. To protect your safety, we check for potentially harmful drug interactions and allergies for all the medications you are taking. If we have a question about one of your prescriptions, an Accredo pharmacist will contact your doctor prior to filling the order.

All medications are carefully packed so that they will arrive protected from breakage and at the proper temperature (using cold packs for medications that require refrigeration). Our cutting-edge, fully automated fulfillment system accurately packages the right medication, literature, and supplies. Finally, a pharmacist separately reviews the entire order before shipping.

What if my medication is tampered with before I receive it or I suspect it has been damaged?

Your medication should always arrive in a sealed package via scheduled delivery. If you suspect tampering or damage of any kind, please call us immediately. If it is determined that your medication is damaged or has been tampered with, we will replace your medication immediately.

What will I receive with my medication?

With your prescription orders, you will receive a patient information pamphlet that will give you additional information about your medications (for example: Should you take it with food? Will it cause drowsiness? What other medications should not be mixed with this medication?). The package may be sent with gel packs if necessary, and be delivered with safe and protective packaging. If the medications require supplies for administration, we will include those as well at no additional cost.

Why is getting my medication through Accredo more convenient than using my local retail pharmacy?

Accredo uses expedited, scheduled delivery so you can receive your medications quickly and safely — when it’s convenient for you. Those medications that need special handling will be packaged accordingly. You will also receive helpful refill reminder calls so you won’t ever worry about running out of medication.

How do I get started using Accredo?

Simply call us, toll-free at 1 800 922-8279 and an Accredo representative will help you start to receive enhanced care for your specialty medications.

With your permission, we will fax your doctor, requesting a new prescription. For quicker response, please call your doctor’s office informing them of this incoming fax.

After your doctor faxes the new prescription to Accredo, one of our patient-care representatives will call you to arrange a convenient time to deliver your medication. Your shipment should arrive within 5 to 8 days after Accredo receives the fax from your doctor and confirms a delivery time with you. We only use expedited delivery service companies at no cost to you, and all packages include supplies you may need to properly administer your medications—also at no charge.

When your medication is getting low, our representatives will make a refill reminder call to you to arrange for your next shipment, so you’ll never have to worry about running out of your medication.
